Prayers were answered to keep son safe

Editor, the Advocate:

This terrible tragedy occurred just before Deanna and I retired to Victoria. As I watched it on TV in my office, another aircraft hit a second tower in New York City.

I quickly called our son Jon, who was based with the United States Coast Guard, in their Battery Park Building in NYC. Jon answered, and I asked, "What's happening son?" He said, "It's very serious, Dad, and we're headed to the scene."

In the following two days, we heard nothing from Jon and began fearing the worst. Jon's four brothers and four sisters called continually to ask if we heard anything. We weren't realizing the USCG had taken steps to limit phone activity to strictly business.

At last, Jon called late in the third day. Oh, what a blessing, learning he was OK. Many prayers were offered during those days, and they were gratefully answered. Jon is still in the USCG, based in California.
