Dillard's has a fitting fundraiser for breast cancer awareness - literally.
The Victoria Dillard's is the first store south of Houston to launch its Fit for a Cure bra-fitting event.
The one-day event raises awareness and funds for breast cancer, said Mary Grace Perez, Dillard's sales manager.
Dillard's will donate $2 to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for every woman fitted in the store and an additional $2 for every bra purchased.
Refreshments, hand massages and information on how to do proper self-examination provided by Citizens Medical Center also will be available.
"We have to set the pace for everybody else," Perez said about being the kickoff Dillard's.
Wacoal, an intimate apparel clothing company, began the Fit for a Cure event 10 years ago.
The event is held twice a year at Dillard's more than 300 stores. This year, Dillard's in Victoria hopes to raise $4,000.
The store raised $3,500 at its spring fitting, Perez said.
Working for a company entrenched in helping fight breast cancer is one of the reasons Perez has enjoyed her 23-year career as a Dillard's employee.
Perez also has had her own bout with cancer, but it was not breast cancer.
"Early detection saved my life, and it can save many lives," she said. "Early detection is the key to anything."
