Nevaeh Ruby Gonzales, of Victoria, suffered a head injury in a two-car collision on Sam Houston Drive on Saturday evening.

She was taken to Citizens Medical Center about 5 p.m. The 6-year-old required stitches.

"I heard she lost some blood with the cut on her head," said the victim's father, Adam Gonzales. He said he was called to the scene after the wreck.

Jef Strauss, patrol officer with the Victoria Police Department, said the injury did not appear to be life-threatening.

Strauss said Elizabeth Reid, of Victoria, crashed into the vehicle driven by the victim's mother, Marcella Gonzales.

Reid, who was driving a 2003 Monte Carlo, made a right turn on Sam Houston Drive from Mockingbird Lane into oncoming traffic.

Gonzales, of Victoria, was driving a 2003 Chevy Impala.

The airbags in both vehicles were deployed.

Strauss said, "She (Reid) failed to yield and the result was striking the other vehicle."

The patrol officer said Reid would receive a citation for failure to control speed.
