Celebrity chef Kevin Roberts kicks off annual VC Lyceum series

Celebrity chef Kevin "The Food Dude" Roberts will be the first guest to speak at this year's Lyceum Lecture Series on Thursday.

Roberts puts a unique spin on creative and healthy eating. His approach to food takes a fresh look at alternatives to fast food restaurants and over-processed convenience foods, specifically aimed at cost-conscious college students whose kitchen resources are often limited.

During his interactive presentation, Roberts will conduct cooking demonstrations targeted toward hungry young men and women struggling to find quick and easy ways to eat healthy, delicious meals on a budget. The audience will get to sample the dishes he prepares.

With recipes like West Coast Wings, Tater Tot Hash and Cinnamon Roasted Grapefruit, Roberts' cooking style demonstrates that there is more to cooking than complex recipes and expensive ingredients.

Roberts is an author and celebrity chef on TLC's BBQ Pitmasters. He also has been on NBC's Today Show, the CBS Morning Show, and was a top 10 finalist on Food Network's The Next Food Network Star.

When he's not cooking on network, cable or local television, Roberts is the owner and executive chef of East Village Tavern & Bowl, an award-winning sports bar and one of San Diego's trendiest hot spots.

Admission to the Lyceum is free, but due to limited seating, tickets are required. Tickets may be picked up in the VC marketing office, or call the main number at 361-573-3291 to request tickets for pick up prior to the lecture.
