Victoria Advocate wins 6 more state awards, bringing total to 25

DALLAS -- The Victoria Advocate received six more awards Sunday in the annual Texas Associated Press Managing Editors contest.

The honors bring the Advocate's total to 25 received during the annual convention in Dallas. Here are the newspaper's awards announced Sunday:

-- Sports column writing, Mike Forman, first place.

-- General column writing, Aprill Brandon Huddle, first place.

-- Best online newspaper, staff, second place.

-- Best team effort, staff, second place.

-- Deadline writing, Kayla Bell and Erin Pradia, honorable mention.

-- Editorial writing, Advocate editorial board, honorable mention.

The Advocate competed against Texas newspapers ranging in circulation size from 30,000-124,999.
