Dancing in the street isn't just a hit song by Martha & The Vandellas.

Crossroads residents will get their chance to make Forrest Street their dance floor Thursday evening.

The Parks and Recreation department will host a free street dance at DeLeon Plaza.

Organizers said the attendance has been modest in previous years and would like more participation in the future.

"We want to get the word out. It's a new event." said Danielle Williams, the department recreation specialist.

Texas-style band The Rackit will perform. Rosebud and Simply Delicious restaurants will serve food and beverages. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.

Williams said this is a family-friendly event, and everyone is welcome.

"It's great for everyone to come hang out and meet new people," she said.
