A Stroman Middle School student was injured Thursday night when he struck his head against a goalpost during an intramural soccer game played on the grass fields adjacent to Memorial Stadium.

The incident occurred just after 7 p.m.

With Victoria Fire Station No. 2 less than 1,000 feet away from the site, emergency officials were on the scene within moments.

The 13-year-old student was the team's goalkeeper. He dove to his left to save a shot when he hit his head against the post, said coach Tina Montelongo.

She said the boy appeared to be fine, but was taken to a hospital as a precaution.

The coach would not release the boy's name, citing student privacy.

Stroman tied its game with Patti Welder Middle School 3-3.
