Office Seeking: Justice of the Peace Precinct 2

1. Why do you want to serve in this position?

I want ensure that the people who come before Lavaca County Justice Court 2 receive fair and impartial justice. I also want every individual appearing before the court to be judged by the laws and court rules of Texas, not by my rules or the influence of an extra judicial source. To that end, I am not related to anyone in Lavaca County nor do I owe anything of value to anyone in Lavaca County. Therefore, every citizen coming before the court will know I hold no bias or prejudice toward anyone appearing before the court.

2. What qualifies you to serve in this office?

I am an attorney licensed to practice law in the state of Texas. I am also licensed to practice in the Texas Southern and Western Federal District Courts. In 2011, I appeared in more than 200 court cases in various Texas courts. In 2010, I appeared in more than 175 court cases. My law practice covers various areas of the law including bankruptcy, civil litigation, criminal law, debt collection, family law, probate and real estate cases. I also served as a peace officer for 22 years in Fayette, Harris and Limestone counties.

3. If elected, how will you go about effectively serving your constituents?

Since being appointed justice of the peace, rather than accepting office rental from the county to pay for the use of my office, I have diverted those funds to pay for a technology upgrade in the court computer system. I have also began to clear unresolved civil and criminal cases from the court docket that have been pending for several years. In the five moths I have been in office I have cleared 42 civil cases from the docket. I have eliminated cash payments and instituted a policy that receipts are issued at time of payment.
