To report any error or need for clarification, please call 361-574-1222. • A man was charged with first degree attempted capital murder after he attempted to flee from a Department of Public Safety state trooper early Sunday morning just south of Port Lavaca.The man, Esidro Rodriguez, was charged with one count of fleeing and evading arrest, a state jail felony, and one count of attempted capital murder of a police officer.During the chase, Rodriguez backed up toward the trooper's patrol car, causing the trooper to put his own vehicle into reverse. The trooper's vehicle was not struck by Rodriguez's truck.The trooper fired his service handgun into the vehicle after attempting to stop Rodriguez a third time when the suspect spun his car 180 degrees and sped toward the trooper.These points in the story on Page B1 Tuesday were unclear or incorrect.
