A 2-year-old girl was bitten by a family hunting dog near Quail Creek late Tuesday.
The child wandered into the backyard of her home, where the dog was kenneled and opened the cage about 6:10 p.m., said Sheriff T. Michael O'Connor.
The street and block number were not released late Tuesday.
The girl suffered one cut to the forehead and was taken to Citizens Medical Center, he said.
"The cut laceration was bad enough to have her taken to the hospital and checked out for any other injuries," O'Connor said.
Animal Control had the dog isolated away from the family's home for additional investigation.
The breed of the hunting dog also was not released, but it was not a pit bull, O'Connor said.
