Area tennis players fall in semifinals at state tournament

AUSTIN - Schulenburg's Wade Dillenbeck lost in the semifinals of the Class 2A UIL Tennis State Championships on Monday at the Penick-Allison Courts.

The Weimar mixed doubles team of Kaitlyn and Jacob Sestak also lost in the Class 2A semifinals.

The Wharton boys doubles team of Casey and Dalton Woodfin advanced to semifinals of the Class 3A tournament at the Penick-Allison Courts before falling.

Dillenbeck opened play with a 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 win over Chris Change of Irving North Hills. He dropped a 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 decision to Karsen Kiefer of Ingram Moore.

The Sestaks captured a 6-1, 6-2 win over the team of Landry Linn and Madison Read of Kountze. The Weimar team was defeated 6-4, 6-1 by the team of Ali Sheriff and Tyler Moore of Ingram Moore, 6-4, 6-4.

The Woodfins defeated the team of Ryan Hosid and Ryan Gambriell of Lindale, 6-1, 6-2. The Wharton team lost a 6-2, 6-0 decision to the team of Collin Bumann and Bryson Fowlkes of Abilene Wylie, 6-2, 6-0.

The boys doubles team of Miquel Peralez and Chance Leal of Karnes City was defeated 6-4, 6-3 by the team of Ethan Arismendez and Heath Holt of Idalou in the quarterfinals.
