PRO: System used in Bee County puts professionals in charge

CON: Would add new bureaucracy

An informal group of Goliad residents is studying whether to change how the county maintains its roads.

In the existing precinct system, a county commissioner is responsible for road maintenance in that precinct. In the unit maintenance system, all the county roads are under one county road department.

A petition, signed by at least 10 percent of the county's voters in the last election for governor, has to be presented to the commissioners court to put the question on the ballot.

Voters would then decide whether to change to the unit system.
