Stacy repeats with high score in league play
Aug. 8, 2012 at 3:08 a.m.
For the second consecutive week, Mike Stacy carved out the top weekly score during Rolling Thunder League play.
Stacy set the tone during his first game with an excellent 278 game before dropping to a 217 second game. He finished with a very nice 243 individual to post a 738 series.
This years' Rolling Thunder summer league has one week left of competition.
Kim Blake also broke the 700 mark in the same league with two exceptional individual games of 267 and 266 contributing towards a 711 set and second high.
Mike Osterson edged out Jamar Bryant for the third high score with a 662 total. Bryant carved out a nifty 256 game on his way to a 660 set.
Michael Conchola also broke the 650 mark with a 657 series.
Samantha Wharton blasted the pins for a 245 middle game, which contributed towards the women's high total. Her first game was a 213 and she ended with a 181 in Rolling Thunder competition.
Erin Faltysek was second high with a 566 set.
With the start of the fall bowling season starting before long, I want to remind bowlers of the incentive to sign up new members to the Victoria USBC Association and USBC.
The total cost of the annual membership dues per individual starting Aug. 1, will be $17.
To help with the cost of the annual USBC membership dues and increase association membership, the Century Lanes and the Victoria USBC will team up to reimburse $5 to any new member and $5 to the recruiter of the new member starting with the fall season after Aug. 1.
A new member is defined as someone who has not bowled in sanctioned competition or one has not had a USBC card for the last two years.
The refund will be made after the new member has bowled at least 21 games. A recruiter is limited to only one $5 reimbursement.
The Century Lanes has a list of the fall leagues schedule at the front desk. They can be contacted at 361-576-1166 for more information.
The fall youth league will also be starting soon. Youth bowlers have an opportunity to earn scholarship money to continue their education after high school.
Congratulations to Mackenzie Soliz and Amy Moore who placed 15th in the Texas Youth State Tournament Championship held in San Antonio. Soliz posted a 1,974 handicap score in Division 3 All Events and Moore rolled a 690 in Division 4 singles.
The Woodlawn Center has openings for the Wednesday night league and also for a senior league on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
The goal is to have 3 or 4 member teams starting the last week in August with a great prize fund.
Call Norm Watkins at 361-576-9605 or Steve Gritta at 361-894-7418 if you are interested in the senior league and the Woodlawn at 361-582-0921 for information on the Wednesday night league.
It is with regret that I note of another long-time Victoria bowler having passed. Rosemary Rippamonti had been battling cancer but succumbed to the dreaded disease Monday morning. She had been bowling in the Captain's League.
My sympathies and condolences go out to the family.
