Aug. 8, 2012 at 3:08 a.m.

Ernesto moved over the Yucatan Peninsula overnight Tuesday and weakened to tropical storm status again, according to the National Weather Service.

As of 7 a.m., maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 60 mph.

Restrengthening is forecast after the center emerges over the Bay of Campeche and Ernesto could regain hurricane strength before landfall on Thursday.

Ernesto is moving toward the west at about 15 mph.

Tropical storm conditions will continue to spread across the southern portions of the Yucatan Peninsula Wednesday.
