General Zaragoza Society of Goliad seeks nominations
Aug. 25, 2012 at 3:25 a.m.
The General Zaragoza Society of Goliad is celebrating its 68th anniversary as a public service organization and an advocate of education.
The organization is one of Goliad's largest donors of scholarships.
For many years, the organization has promoted the Annual Cinco De Mayo celebration in honor of General Ignacio Zaragoza, who was born in what is now Goliad County's La Bahia del Espiritu Santo.
The organization wants to recognize people who have been outstanding contributors to our region and communities. The General Zaragoza Society is accepting nominations from local organizations such as chambers of commerce, Lions Club, Rotary Club, school districts, city, county, churches and all civic clubs to recognize outstanding people in the categories of law enforcement, education, humanitarian or citizenship and community service.
Each award will have its own criteria and be judged by a panel of judges.
The General Zaragoza Society will recognize the outstanding leaders at a celebration at the Goliad Auditorium on Nov. 3.
Nominating groups or people are asked to present a two to three page, single-spaced, outline with the nominee's resume and reasons for their nomination. A nominee is eligible for one category only. All decisions of the General Zaragoza Society are final, with finalists receiving the General Zaragoza Medallion at the designated banquet. Deadline for nominations is Oct. 13.
For more information about the banquet, call Hernan Jaso at 361-655-6961 or email nominations or questions to email@example.com.
