Hallettsville wins season opener over Ganado

HALLETTSVILLE - Halfback Teidrick Smith scored three touchdowns and quarterback Nate Kowalik ran for one touchdown and passed for another as Hallettsville took a season-opening 35-14 win over Ganado on Friday.

Smith scored on runs of 40, 63 and 11 yards and rushed for 125 yards on just 8 carries.

Kowalik had 211 yards of total offense, rushing for 82 yards on 8 carries and throwing for 129 yards with 6 completions.

This was Hallettsville's first season-opening win since 2008.

Dalton Herrington scored the first touchdown of the game on a 58-yard pass from Kowalik.

Halfback Clay Vesely scored Ganado's first touchdown on a 1-yard run in the second quarter.

The Brahmas scored 20 unanswered points before fullback Kaleb Leal went in from 4 yards out for the final Ganado score.

Herrington, who also had a pass interception, caught 3 passes for 73 yards and Trenton McGee 3 for 56 yards.

Vesley rushed for 106 yards on 31 carries for the Indians.
