A meaty tradition continues Sunday at the 91st annual Shiner Catholic Church picnic at the Knights of Columbus Park.
"It's a family and cultural tradition to serve three meats and that's what we do," said the Rev. Kirby Hlavaty of Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church. "The meal is also at a great price at just $8."
The dinner, served from 10:30 to 2 p.m., includes Shiner Picnic stew, fried chicken and country sausage with all the trimmings.
Drive-thru plates are also available until 12:30 p.m. at the American Legion Hall on alternate U.S. Highway 90 East.
Music inside the hall includes accordion music from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Shiner Hobo Band from 2 to 4 p.m. and the Dutchmasters and the Holub Polka Band from 4 to 8 p.m.
A dance from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. will feature Scott Taylor Band and The Emotions. Tickets to the dance are $10.
Outside music includes Oma and the Oompahs from 4 to 7 p.m. and Los Kolaches from 7 to 11 p.m.
Activities also include a country store, big country auction, cattle auction, arts and crafts booths, bingo and cake and plant wheels.
Activities designed for the children will also be available.
In conjunction with the annual event, a Polka Mass will be at 5 p.m. Saturday; and Mass will be at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Sunday.
