Early voting for the Cuero school district tax rollback election continues through Friday.
Early voting will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the DeWitt County Election Office, 115 N. Gonzales St., behind the tax office.
The proposed tax rate of $1.07003 cents is lower than last year's tax rate of $1.28736 but higher than the effective tax rate that would have generated the same amount of revenue as last year's rate.
State law calls for a rollback election to be held when the proposed rate exceeds the effective rate by more than 8 percent.
The proposed rate includes a rate of $1.04 per $100 in valuation for maintenance and operation of the district. It also includes a debt tax rate of 03.003 cents to retire bonds, said Cuero Superintendent Jim Haley.
A home valued at $100,000 will see its school taxes decrease by $92 with the new tax rate, Haley noted.
Election day is Dec. 11, and the polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the election office.
