An early-morning trip to the convenience store proved deadly Friday for a Yoakum woman.

Anita Renee Cleveland Dilworth, 50, of Yoakum, apparently fell from a moving pickup and died, said Yoakum Police Chief Arthur Rogers. Yoakum emergency personnel responded to the incident about 4 a.m. at the intersection of Carl Ramert Drive and North South Street.

Rogers said Dilworth was a passenger in the truck and was returning to the recreational vehicle park where she lives. According to the driver's account, Dilworth decided to get out of the moving vehicle and walk the remaining distance.

"He said she was messing with her seat belt as he turned, and the next thing he knew she had fallen out," Rogers said. "He may have run over her, but we are waiting for autopsy results."

Rogers said the incident appears to be an accident.

"Foul play is not suspected, but the incident is under investigation," the police chief said.

Lavaca County Justice of the Peace Alene Lyons performed an inquest at the scene, and Dilworth was sent to the Travis County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.
