A project years in the making should finish up in the next six months, as the Goliad City Council approved four new "Welcome to Goliad" monument signs.
"I think it will draw attention to how proud we are of our community and how we want to express to the folks that are passing through the historic significance of our community as far as the missions go," said Mayor Jay Harvey.
The four signs, one at each entrance to the city on U.S. 183 and U.S. 59, were approved in November and should cost about $120,000, Harvey said.
He said some groups have been fundraising for the signs for about 10 years.
The sign committee in Goliad donated more than $20,000.
The rest of the money will come from city funds, Harvey said.
"It's just to show our pride in our community and just to show our welcoming nature," Harvey said.
