School reopens after water line repaired

Travis Middle School in Port Lavaca opened again Tuesday after a broken water line was repaired late Monday.
On Monday morning, the cold weather caused the main water line to crack, leaking water into the school.
The pipe is the main supply line of water for the school. When it was shut off for repairs, the school was without water for drinking fountains, restrooms or any other use.
Superintendent Billy Wiggins said school officials were reluctant to turn students away on such short notice, so they chose to send out phone call alerts to all parents, informing them that the school was without water and giving them the option of picking up their children. Most students left school for the day. Those who stayed walked to Sandcrab Stadium to use the bathroom facilities.
