Thumbs-up, thumbs-down; it's your choice

Thumbs-up and thank you to the editors of the Victoria Advocate for remembering our World War II veterans on the front page Dec. 7. Also, a big thumbs-up to the Von Dohlen family for standing on principle for the culture of life by not renewing the lease of the pharmacy that sells the abortion pill, RU-486. Taken up to 72 hours after intercourse, it does not only act as contraception, but it can also act as an abortifacient for a newly formed human life. Thanks for choosing to support life.

Mary Ann, Moulton

Thumbs-up to Judge Pozzi and our county commissioners for respecting our heritage and history with their vote to maintain Victoria Preservation.

Thumbs-down to the people who do not drive with their headlights on during the morning fog. This could make a very dangerous situation for many.

Thumbs-down to whoever found my iPhone in the H-E-B parking lot and didn't return it to customer services. It contained a lot of sentimental pictures.

Jamie, Telferner

Thumbs-down to excessive train noise late at night. Between Navarro, where the train travels over the road near Goodwin Street and the road crossing just past Ben Wilson, I have counted 28 horn blasts. Sometimes I can count to two or three between blasts from 2 to 4 a.m. There are only five road crossings in that short distance. I began to wonder if a child was on the train or a senile old man operating the horn. It would seem one blast before a crossing would be enough.

Thumbs-down to the Edna Cemetery Association directors for removing the vigil and solar lights in the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Edna.

Thumbs-up to the El Campo Ricebirds for making it back to the state championships 45 years after last time.

Thumbs-up to the Victoria Fire Department's new 3,000-square-foot training facility at 1411 S.W. Ben Jordan St. It's important to have a well-trained fire department, and we are glad to see this new facility unveiled.

Thumbs-up and thank you to Kenneth Reese, Dancing Santa of Brentwood, for all the years of joy given to area children. We are sad to see you retire and wish you well in the years to come.

Thumbs-up to the return of the Victoria Police Officers Association Blue Santa. Thank you for bringing toys and joy to underprivileged children.

Thumbs-up and good luck to all the students who will be graduating during the winter semester.

Thumbs-up to Heritage Funeral Home's annual Holiday Memory Tree and Celebration. Thank you for giving residents a way to honor and remember their loved ones during the holidays.

Thumbs-down to the fire at the Church's Chicken restaurant at 209 W. Rio Grande St.

Thumbs-down to the tragic death of Jenni Rivera in a plane crash. Too many talented artists die young.
