A 16-year-old East High School student battling cancer may not live through Christmas.

Jessica Villarreal has been battling a rare form of cancer since the fifth grade, but she and her family found out in October that the treatment was no longer working.

Vern Crockett, of Victoria, is helping to coordinate efforts to aid Jessica.

A community meeting is planned for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Heritage Mark to organize volunteers and donations for an emergency graduation ceremony for Jessica in the coming days.

Wendell Geigle, founder of the South Texas Chapter Guardians of the Ribbon, said Jessica had two requests: to go Christmas shopping for her family and to have a graduation party.

"It kind of knocks you down and takes you back to reality because she has a smile on, and all she wants to do is enjoy the time with her family. It makes you start to appreciate the things in your life," Geigle said.

The Pink Fire Truck from the Guardians of the Ribbon will be at the planning meeting, Geigle said.

Her graduation ceremony is not yet scheduled.
