Dec. 19, 2012 at 6:19 a.m.

Steve Dickinson not only bowled well enough to earn the weekly high scoring honors but he also excelled in two other leagues during the week.

His best score was during Sundowner League play, where he blasted the pins for games of 236, 259, and 239 to total 734 for the week's high.

Dickinson also posted sets of 658 and 650 in other leagues.

Ramon Verduzco rolled the second high score during Fall Sunday Strikers action with a 256 high game contributing towards a 721 series.

Also breaking the 700 mark were Mike Osterson 268-718/259-691, T.J. Mooney 255-706, Kevin Stacy 264-704, and Dave Matthews 254-702/663.

In last Sunday's GEICO World Series of Bowling telecast, Bill O'Neill marched up the step-ladder finals to win the Alka Seltzer Plus Cold Cheetah Championship for his fourth PBA title.

O'Neill started his climb to the winner's circle by defeating Chris Loschetter 248-223 in the first match. He beat Jeff Roche 246-177 in the semi-finals and outscored Mike Wolfe 243-192 in the finals.

O'Neill's nickname is "The Real Deal" and he was in the Cheetah Championship.

The PBA Viper Championship will be broadcast next Sunday on ESPN at noon.

The Century Lanes will host its annual New Year's Eve No-Tap Doubles Tournament with lanes available for 64 teams. There are 40 teams already signed up so if you want to join fellow bowlers for a dinner buffet, bowling, and champagne at mid-night, call Trent Blake at the Century Lanes at 361-576-1166.

With Christmas and the New Year's Eve holidays scheduled next week, there will be several leagues that are not scheduled to bowl. So I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a safe New Year's Eve. We want everyone to return safely in 2013.
