St. Joseph grad earns scholar-athlete award

AUSTIN - Concordia University's Lauren Vansickle was named an All-America Softball Scholar Athlete by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
Vansickle, a St. Joseph graduate, earned the honor, which requires a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above, for the second consecutive year.
Vansickle graduated in April with a degree in finance and a cumulative 3.70 GPA.
The four-year starter was one of the most decorated female athletes to attend the school.
She was named to the All-American Southwest Conference first team once, second team twice and once earned honorable mention.
Vansickle played in 35 games and started 34 in left field last season and hit .300 with 14 RBIs.
She owns the career school records for triples (8), and is second in hits (168), runs scored (111), doubles (43), and total bases (251). She is third in walks (59), fourth in career RBIs (82), fifth in batting average (.341), and sixth in home runs (7).
