The Victoria ISD Education Foundation's second annual Hall of Honor Tribute will honor John and L'Nell Starkey.
The event Tuesday will feature band, choral, dance and theater groups from Victoria East and West high schools and will end in a finale performance by the Baylor University Wind Ensemble.
The Starkeys, who have been married for almost 60 years, graduated from Baylor University, as did their five children and several grandchildren.
Each of the Starkey's five children are VISD graduates, too.
Brittany Hollas, the foundation's executive director, said the Starkeys will be honored as positive role models for VISD students.
"Their name quickly came to us as people who had strong character, humble service to the community and strong personal and professional achievements that would be outstanding models for our students," she said.
The Hall of Honor Tribute was created to raise funds for the education foundation as well as celebrate citizens, faculty, staff, alumni and former Victoria school district students, Hollas said.
John Starkey moved to Victoria in 1961 to go into a medical practice that has spanned the past 50 years. He and his wife serve in church ministries at Northside Baptist Church and have volunteered with youth scouting. He a district chairman for the Boy Scouts and she a Girl Scout troop leader at Shields Elementary.
"We're looking forward to celebrating with them," Hollas said.
