Jaguars split two with UT Brownsville

BROWNSVILLE - John Longoria and Tyler Steiner hit home runs to help the University of Houston-Victoria earn a split in a season-opening doubleheader against the University of Texas-Brownsville on Friday at Scorpion Field.

UTB (4-2) won the first game 9-0 before the Jaguars claimed a 7-4 win in the second game.

Longoria and Steiner each hit two-run homers for UHV.

Cory Hulsey, Ryan Suescun and Juan Solis each doubled and had two hits for the Jaguars.

Zach Moya was the winning pitcher and Nick Huff worked two scoreless innings to earn the save.

Josh Ledesma had two of UHV's four hits in the first game.

The teams return to Scorpion Field for a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m.
