The Victoria Generals have begun to assemble their 2012 Texas Collegiate League roster.

The Generals announced Wednesday the signing of Jake McMurtry and Anthony Azar from Sam Houston State.

McMurtry, a pitcher, was one of the original members of the Generals during the 2009 season.

McMurtry missed the 2011 season with an arm injury, but is fully recovered and is expected to work out of the bullpen for the 2012 season.

Azar, a catcher and first baseman, transferred to Sam Houston from Texarkana College where he hit .326 as a freshman.

"We've had a great relationship with Sam Houston State over the last several years," said Blake Koch, the general manager for the Generals. "It's a great program in the Southland Conference that continues to get better and better every year."

The Generals missed the playoffs by one game last season after winning the league championship in 2010.
