Team chemistry shouldn't be a problem for the University of Houston-Victoria.
The Jaguars are optimistic after starting the baseball season on the road with four games and two exhibitions.
"We were pretty comfortable right away," said outfielder Juan Solis. "Coach (Terry) Puhl has created a family atmosphere and we can play together on the field."
The Jaguars split a pair of doubleheaders against the University of Texas-Brownsville.
They won the first game of an exhibition doubleheader against Alvin Community College on Tuesday before darkness brought a halt to the second game with the score tied.
UHV will travel to Texas A&M-Kingsville's Nolan Ryan Field for a doubleheader against the Javelinas beginning at 3 p.m. Friday.
The Jaguars will play their home opener against A&M-Kingsville on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Riverside Stadium.
"We're playing good teams," Solis said. "I think we can compete with them. We need to keep it going with our pitching and start hitting the ball."
A&M-Kingsville opened the season Tuesday at Nolan Ryan Field with a 5-3 win over St. Edward's.
Memorial graduate Trent Wagner hit a triple and scored a run for the Javelinas.
"We threw the ball well and played solid defense," said A&M-Kingsville coach and Cuero graduate Jason Gonzales. "We knew our pitching staff was going to have to carry us until we can find our rhythm with our hitting."
NOTES: UHV's doubleheader against Texas A&M-Kingsville on Friday will be broadcast on KVNN, 1340 AM.
