Victoria College's athlete of the week is Courtney Duke. The sophomore women's basketball player, who goes by Duke, is a big reason for the team's success this season.

She averaged 14.3 points, 12.5 rebounds and 35 minutes in her last three games.

"Duke is a unique player," head coach Josh Moore said. "She is one of the toughest players in the paint and is a sharpshooter when it comes to three pointers.

"This makes her tough to defend and even tougher to take out of the game".

In addition to her on-court accomplishments, Duke is majoring in respiratory therapy and works more than 35 hours at Faith Academy's Early Learning Center.

Duke is able to manage her time extremely well and this pays off in good grades and basketball skills.

The Pirates are on the road again next week to face St. Phillips College and hope to improve upon their 7-5 conference mark.

The Victoria College Sports Report is contributed by Kelly McKay, a professor in the Victoria College physical education department.
