One man was killed and another injured in a two-vehicle wreck on state Highway 60 at Farm-to-Market Road 1161 on Tuesday.
Matthew Clifton, 18, of East Bernard, was driving east on Farm-to-Market Road 1161 and failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign. He pulled in front of an 18-wheeler driven north on the highway by Larry Bell, of Corpus Christi, said a Department of Public Safety spokeswoman.
Clifton suffered head injuries and was transported to Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton. He was in stable condition, the DPS spokeswoman said.
But his passenger Taylor James Goodwin, 19, of East Bernard, was killed in the crash.
Goodwin was pronounced dead on the scene at 11:15 a.m. by Justice of the Peace Janet Krenek.
A spokeswoman from the Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton was unable to release any information on Clifton's condition.
Bell was not injured, according to the DPS.
