A 15-year-old Victoria boy was injured Monday afternoon in what appears to be an accidental shooting.
The boy, whose name was not released because he is a minor, was in a pasture near Bayer Road with another 15-year-old boy when a .22 rifle discharged, resulting in a self-inflicted injury to the head, Victoria County Sheriff T. Michael O'Connor said.
The teen's friend called for help at at 1:25 p.m. The Victoria County Sheriff's Office and Victoria Fire Department responded to the call. The EMS team worked on the teen to stabilize him before he was flown by medical helicopter to a Corpus Christi hospital, O'Connor said.
"Preliminarily, it looks like it was an accidental discharge," O'Connor said.
The family has been notified and was en route to Corpus Christi, O'Connor said.
The teenager's condition was unknown Monday night.
