A community reception will be from 4-6 p.m. Thursday to welcome Dr. Jennifer Gonzales as the second full-time medical director of Hospice of South Texas.
The reception will be at 605 E. Locust St. in Victoria. Refreshments will be served.
Gonzales, who is certified in hospice and palliative medicine, will work side-by-side with Dr. Tyson Meyer, the Hospice's first full-time medical director who was hired August 2009, said Hilary Lucas, director of community relations.
"We are excited to have two full-time medical directors on staff to oversee the medical component of care received by our hospice patients," said Lucas.
"The medical director works with the patient's team to create a customized plan of care for each patient and is available to make visits to the patient's home, nursing home or hospital when needed," Lucas said.
Gonzales is a 1991 graduate of Cuero High School and a 1996 graduate of Texas Lutheran College.
She graduated from the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara School of Medicine in 2002 and completed a Fifth Pathway internship at Sound Shore Medical Center in New Rochelle, N.Y., a major teaching affiliate of New York Medical College.
Gonzales received her internal medicine residency training at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, graduating in 2006.
She is a Fellow in the American College of Physicians and is board certified in internal medicine.
She practices medicine in Cuero.
