DeWitt County Spelling Bee champions named

The DeWitt County Spelling Bee was held on Feb. 16, at the St. Mark's Lutheran Church.

Mitchell Green of Cuero Jr. High School and Brady Watson of Cuero Intermediate School were the winners of the event.

Lovina Yoder, of Westhoff School, is the alternate. They will advance to the regional spelling bee on March 20 in Victoria.

Competing in the event were:

Cuero Intermediate School

Lillianna Gonzalez, sixth grade, daughter of Moncita and Jorge Gonzalez;

Brady Watson, fourth grade, son of Jami and Trent Watson;

and alternate, Jaucelyn Garza, fifth grade, daughter of Kimberly Arredondo.

Cuero Jr. High

Mitchell Green, seventh grade, son of Rone and Porter Green;

Kaleigh Patek, seventh grade, daughter of Laura and Doug Patek;

and alternate, Brendan McLeod, eighth grade, son of Tempi and Michael McLeod.

Meyersville School• Lauren Haun, eighth grade, daughter of Brian and Monica Carson;

• Mary Moritz, sixth grade, daughter of Wiley and Beth Moritz;

• and alternate, Hannah Williamson, fifth grade, daughter of David Williamson and Janette Rubio.

Westhoff School• Lovina Yoder, seventh grade, daughter of John and Laura Yoder;

• Edna Yoder, sixth grade, daughter of John and Laura Yoder;

• and alternate, Thomas Vandeveer, sixth grade, son of Michael and Leslie Vandeveer.

Yoakum Jr. High• Marshall Fowler, sixth grade, son of Daryl and Lisa Fowler;

• Nathan Frank, sixth grade, son of Patrick Frank and Michelle Michaelson;

• and alternate, Lizbeth Rodriguez, eighth grade, daughter of Salvador and Marisela Rodriguez.
