Lillian Lau said she's proud of her granddaughter Sarah Grueneberg for making it to the finale of "Top Chef: Texas" Wednesday evening.

"Sarah came in second, but that's all right," said Lau, a Victoria native.

Lau said the competition between her 30-year-old grandchild and Paul Qui was close to the end.

Grueneberg, a Sugar Land native, had a challenge dealing with another chef on her team.

"Would you just cut up the celery," Grueneberg had said in a stern tone during the competition. Lau responded with laughter about her granddaughter's frustration. Normally Grueneberg is easygoing.

The runner-up said she is grateful for the support from her family and the Crossroads community for tuning in to the TV show.

Grueneberg, an executive chef, later, spoke with Lau about the fateful evening and said she had cooked her heart out.

She added that she's glad she had the opportunity to advance her career.
