An Austin man injured in a wreck on U.S. Highway 87 North Saturday remained in critical condition in a San Antonio Hospital on Wednesday.
Steven Groll, 62, of Austin, was airlifted to University Hospital in San Antonio after his vehicle struck a flatbed trailer at 12:15 p.m. Saturday.
Groll was driving a Jeep southbound on the highway just before B&D's General Store, when his vehicle drifted from the outside lane and across northbound traffic, said Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Stephen Gray.
A northbound Chevrolet Silverado driven by Daniel Fisher, 45, of Victoria, swerved to the shoulder to miss the Jeep, but the Jeep struck the trailer the truck was pulling.
Groll was trapped in his vehicle until firefighters cut off his door. He was transported by helicopter to University Hospital in San Antonio.
A hospital spokeswoman said he remained in critical condition Wednesday.
A dog in the vehicle with him was retrieved by Florence Smith, 35, of Port Lavaca. The dog appeared uninjured and was picked up by animal control.
Groll and Fisher were wearing seat belts, Gray said. The wreck remains under investigation.
