Jan. 21 is the deadline to sign up for a spot in the 2012 Queen Victoria Pageant.
The annual event, which takes place Feb. 11 at the VISD Fine Arts Center, is open to girls 4 to 18 years old and boys 4 to 9 years old who live in Victoria County.
Those selected for the court will reign over the 66th annual Victoria Livestock Show, attend parades throughout the year and participate in various community service projects.
Boy categories include Cowboy Tot, ages 4 through 6, and Little Mr. Cowboy, ages 7 through 9, while girl categories include Cowgirl Tot, ages 4 through 6, Little Miss Cowgirl, ages 7 through 9, Young Queen, ages 10 through 12, Junior Queen, ages 13 through 15, and Queen Victoria, ages 16 through 18.
The pageant's goal is to provide a fair competition that allows contestants a chance to better themselves, gain self-awareness, self-confidence, pride and greater social awareness, according to a news release from the Victoria Jaycees, who sponsor the pageant.
