West's Manning, East's Tipton named to all-star team

CORPUS CHRISTI - Victoria West's Miles Manning and Victoria East's Mason Tipton have been named to the South Texas Pre-Season High School All-Star baseball team.

Manning, a senior, and Tipton, a sophomore, were selected as utility players on the large-school division team, which includes Class 4A and 5A schools.

Refugio senior Shiloh Whetsel and sophomore Travis Quintanilla were named to the small-school division team, which includes players from Class 3A, 2A, 1A and private schools.

Whetsel was picked in the outfield and Quintanilla was chosen at shortstop.

The team was selected by high school coaches and select media in South Texas. The Advocate did not participate in the selections.

The players will be honored at the Eighth Annual South Texas Winter Baseball Banquet on Wednesday, Jan. 25, at the Omni Bayfront Hotel in Corpus Christi.

Players receiving mention in the large-school division were seniors Brooks Bynum, Seth Harrison and Zachary Valenzuela from Victoria West, and seniors Robert Gleinser and Gabe Verduzco and junior Trey Thormahlen from Victoria East.

Players receiving mention in the small-school division were Refugio seniors Justin Padilla and Richard Tuttle, Bloomington juniors Ruben Aguirre, Keanu Escamilla and Nathaniel Sanchez and sophomore Aaron Garza, and Karnes City senior Lawrence Carrasco, junior Philip Vaughan, and sophomore Jeremy Coronado.
