Van Vleck graduate sets A&M-Kingsville school record

LUBBOCK -- Texas A&M-Kingsville's Avery Griffin set a school record in the weight throw at the Texas Tech Invitational on Friday.

Griffin threw the 35-pound weight 58 feet 2 inches to place second and smash the record of 53-6.25 set by Marc Evans in 2002.

Griffin is a Van Vleck graduate who transferred to A&M-Kingsville from Barton Community College in Kansas.

Samantha Alvarez, a Memorial graduate, finished tied for third in the high jump with a leap of 5-5 and fourth in the pole vault by clearing 10-6.
