Change coming to Victoria's JC Penney store

Change is coming to Victoria's JC Penney store.

Beginning Feb. 1, a new color-coded pricing strategy goes into effect, said Brian Patteson, store manager. The move is part of a company-wide update.

Red price tags indicate everyday prices throughout the store, he said, while white tags indicate price breaks that last the entire month.

Blue tags are for items whose prices are slashed further, Patteson said. They indicate the store's best prices and will be updated on the first and third Fridays of each month.

Patteson said the changes are a way to offer up "fair and square" pricing that customers understand.

"All retailers were making customers jump through hoops to decide when was the best time to buy," he said. "We're ending that madness."

Other changes also enter the mix.

The store will no longer offer coupons or doorbuster deals, Patteson said, and will pare promotions down from the more than 500 that took place in 2011 to just 12.

It will also offer a new return policy.

"We will take back any item, any time, anywhere," he said. "That should make customers very happy."

JC Penney will likely incorporate other updates toward the end of 2012, Patteson said, but those are still in the planning stages.

"We're looking forward to new concepts," he said. "There's more to come."
