Moulton livestock show tops $70,000 in sales

Buyers stepped up and Moulton students cashed in at the annual Moulton Jr. Livestock Show on Jan. 16.

The premium auction generated $71,075, topping last year's total of $57,875.

"We had a great show and the most generous buyers," said Jamina Vasbinder, show secretary. "Every exhibitor in the sale received his or her maximum bid."

The 1,245-pound grand champion steer of Kalla Gaertner led the way, selling for $4,200.

It was Gaertner's third consecutive year to show the grand champion steer.

Buyers included Kelly Mudd Equipment, David Urban Bookkeeping, BKB Oilfield Inc., JNK Trucking, First National Bank Shiner, Fishbeck Shell, Community Bank of Moulton, Bohuslav Trucking Inc., Janak-Henke Hog Farm, GII Cattle, Gupton Cattle Service, Boedecker Ag, Lone Star Bank, The Bridal Rail, Scott and Tiffany Brown, Nickel Ranch, Mostar Communication, Rothers Custom Farm Work and Flatonia Vet Clinic.

Hannah Perez showed the grand champion swine, a 239-pounder, and sold it for $3,400 to Lone Star Bank, Fikac Distributing, Perez Painting Inc., Kelly Mudd Equipment, David Urban Bookkeeping, Flatonia Livestock, Mangnum Hunter Resources, BKB Oilfield Inc., Bel Aire Restaurant, Grafe Chevrolet-GMC, Sherwin Williams Paint Co., Moulton Propane, Alex Clampit Dozer Service, Hallettsville Livestock Commission, H&C Construction, Migl Feed & Grain and Nickel Ranch.

Kyle Trejo exhibited the grand champion 156-pound lamb that brought in $3,400. The buyers included Magnum Hunter Resources, BKB Oilfield Inc., BAK Trucking Inc., Frank Janecek RVOS Farm Mutual Ins., Community Bank of Moulton, Moulton Knights of Columbus No. 3244, Shady Oak Nursing & Rehabilitation, The Bridal Rail, Scott and Tiffany Brown, Mostar Communication, Prototype, Bastrop Scale Co., Advance Home Health, Black Water Service and White Top Oilfield.

The grand champion pen of broilers sold for $2,400. Jenna Wenske was the exhibitor. The buyers included Magnum Hunter Resources, BKB Oilfield Inc., Perez Painting Inc., Sherwin Williams Paint Co., Roman and Ann Wenske, Community Bank of Moulton, Lone Star Bank, Constable Charles Greive, Anderle Hay Sales & Service, Nathan and Miranda Wenske, GVEC and Dennis and Barb Janak.

Among the reserve champions, Aimee Fojtik sold her 1,130-pound steer for $3,200.

The buyers were Magnum Hunter Resources, BKB Oilfield, JNK Trucking, Paul H. Newton, Community Bank of Moulton, Dale and Michelle Fojtik, Shady Oak Nursing & Rehabilitation, Dale Janak, PFC Kay Pilat, GII Cattle, Boedeker Ag, Lone Star Bank, Nickel Ranch, People's State Bank Hallettsville, Scott and Tiffany Brown, Mostar Communication, Prototype, Boedeker Plastics, Advanced Home Health, Bastrop Scale, Phillip and Gernadette Geissen, and Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Berckenhoff.

Nicholas Perez showed the reserve champion hog, a 245-pound swine that sold for $2,400.

Buyers included Nancy Sivyer, Lone Star Bank, Sherriff Micah Harmon, KCTI AM 1450, Sherwin Williams Paint Co., Perez Painting Inc., Kloesel's Steak House, Kelly Mudd Equipment, Jeagers, David Urban Bookkeeping, Magnum Hunter Resources, BKB Oilfield Inc., Bel Aire Restaurant, Moulton Propane, Moulton Knights of Columbus No. 3244, Hallettsville Livestock Commission, H&C Construction, Migl Feed & Grain, Moulton Precision and Streamline Production.

Railey Aragon sold the 151-pound reserve champion lamb for $2,400 to Jewett Farm, Don's Auto, Jeagers, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lee Berckenhoff, Magnum Hunter Resources, BKB Oilfield., RAD Farms, Carol Renner, attorney, JNK Trucking, Mark and Mary Shafer, John and Cindy Cinadr, Raabe Ranch, Holub Real Estate, Bastrop Scale, W/W Consultants, Community Bank of Moulton, Danny and Raina Ramos, Union Compression and Ronald and Betty Rosnovsky.

Trever Freytag's reserve champion broilers sold for $1,400 to Jeagers, Magnum Hunter Resources, BKB Oilfield, Richter Water Well Drilling, Alex Clampit Dozer Service, H&C Construction, Flatonia Livestock Commission, David Urban Bookkeeping, Auto Brite Car Wash, Pesek-Hermes Memorial, Victoria Oliver of Hallettsville and Fishbeck BBQ & Catering.
