Thumbs-up, thumbs-down; it's your choice

Thumbs-up to those Victoria subdivisions who maintain their street-side easements. The dilapidated wooden fences and weeds of some of our neighborhood/city right-of-ways certainly makes driving Victoria's streets less than a "beautiful" experience.

Brenda, Victoria

Thumbs-up to Daniel Gonzales for being named 2011 Male Recurve Bowman Archer of the Year and all his other archery achievements. Proves kids can excel in a safe sport that does not involve a ball and the skills can be used outside of competition for a lifetime.

Shirley, Edna

Thumbs-up to the writer and photographer of the beautiful iconostasis at the All Saints Orthodox Mission.

Patrick, Victoria

Thumbs-down to City of Victoria charging people to watch Little League games at complex. That is a city park, paid for by Victoria taxpayers. Why charge them twice?

Melvin, Victoria

Thumbs-up to Chris Smith for his brave action helping people involved in a wreck near the Discount Tire in front of the Victoria Mall on North Navarro Street.

Thumbs-up to retired Hallettsville librarian Carol Morisak for her 33 years of serving the community and teaching others the joy of reading.

Thumbs-up to the Texas Zoo's renovated aviary exhibit.

Thumbs-up to DeTar Hospital Navarro and Citizens Medical Center, which both qualified for the American Heart Association's Mission: Lifeline Bronze Quality Achievement Award for implementing higher standards of care for heart attack patients.

Thumbs-down to the death of Mayberry's favorite sheriff, Andy Griffith.
