Isacc Barajas (Round Rock) won the men's individual title for the second time in four years. Barajas bowled a 300 game and 799 series during the Sunday's morning squad to help towards his 6 game total of 1,534. Since he has no handicap, he averaged 255 per game for the tournament.
Another scratch bowler, Joe Buenrostro (San Antonio) made a strong showing on Sunday to move into 2nd place with a total of 1,482. The Texas State USBC Hall of Famer is always a threat to win a title.
Victorian Joe Blount also made an impression with a handicap score of 1,466 to win third place money. Mike Silgero 1,431 (Corpus Christi) and David Martinez 1,426 (San Antonio) placed fourth and fifth respectively.
Becky Bowen 1,473 (Corpus Christi) nosed out hard charging Victorian Rebekah Martinez 1,463 for the title. Martinez was not in the top five after Saturday's action but finished strong on Sunday for second place money.
Finishing up the top five women individual winners were Latoya Williams 1,433 (San Antonio), Bobbie Long 1,400 (Victoria) and Felecia Holmes 1,390 (Houston).
With a total of 480 bowlers from all over the state participating, it was a great competition.
Walter and Linda Wilson use to live in Corpus Christi several years ago before Walter's job transferred him to Oklahoma City. He happened to read about the tournament on the internet and decided to drive down to participate in it. Both Walter and Linda were able to sub on teams so their trip was worthwhile.
David Martinez (San Antonio) bowled a 298 scratch game during the Sunday Morning squad.
To those who bowled well congratulations and to those who did not, wait until next year for the 36th Annual Victoria Latin Bowlers tournament.
