Railroad company should clean up after job

Editor, the Advocate:

To Union Pacific Railroad, I say: Pick up those old ties you have left stacked around the county for more than a year. Your job is not complete until your trash is cleaned up. When you redid the tracks, I saw a smooth and efficient operation. You installed many pre-fab street crossings at the same time. My street got one of those that makes the crossing so much smoother.

Those old ties are not merely eye sores, they are fire hazards. Some block drainage ditches. They can't be mowed close to, making them a haven for snakes and other critters.

You even had the audacity to stack a huge pile under a large billboard that at the time read "Don't mess with Texas."

I don't expect this letter will make you pick up your trash, but maybe it will stir city and county leaders into action with the "Keep Victoria Beautiful" and "Don't mess with Texas" campaigns.
