Hallettsville FFA president receives $16,000 scholarship

James Wick, of the Hallettsville FFA chapter, was awarded a $16,000 scholarship, sponsored by the Houston Livestock Show at the 84th annual Texas FFA Convention held July 9-13 in Corpus Christi.

Wick was awarded for his qualifications in academic achievement, leadership, SAE, FFA involvement, financial need and personal interview.

James's career in the FFA began in the third grade and he has competed in numerous stock shows exhibiting commercial steers, halter steers and heifers.

He served as Hallettsville FFA president this past year and will attend Texas A&M University and Blinn Junior College in the fall as a part of the Blinn Team. He is the son of Terry and Sarah Wick, of Hallettsville. James, right, is pictured with his father, who is also his high school agricultural science instructor.
