Food service inspections for July 11-18

The Victoria City-County Health Department Environmental Health Division inspects places where food is served in Victoria, DeWitt, Jackson and Calhoun Counties.
In the inspection reports, each violation in the Food Temperature/Time Requirements category is 5 demerits; in the Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements category, 4 demerits; and in the Facility and Equipment Requirements, 3 demerits. Zero is a perfect score, while 100 demerits is the worst possible score.
Each Wednesday, the Advocate publishes inspection results from the previous week. All demerits are reported, but only those in the categories of Food Temperature/Time Requirements and Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements are detailed.
FOOD SERVICE INSPECTIONS FOR WEEK ENDING JULY 20
Victoria Tru Thai Asian Cuisine, 811 E. Rio Grande St., Victoria. Demerits: 37. Improper cold hold temperature. Need to wash hands in between tasks. Do not store personal items on food contact surfaces. Dispose of out-of-date food. Do not store uncovered food on top of each other. Do not store raw meat next to vegetables. Need to date label food with a seven-day use-by date. Do not block hand sink with cart. Address problem of droppings on counters and window sills. Defrost meat under cold running water. Four facility or equipment violations.
Los Reyes Mexican Grill, 6908 N. Navarro St., Victoria. Demerits: 33. Wash hands before glove use. Employee drinks need lids and straws. Work on covering all food in walk-in cooler. Need to use gloves when cutting vegetables. Need to store raw meat below other food. Work on date labeling all food in walk-in cooler. Keep times of food kept out at room temperature. Do not store chip container and buckets in front of hand sink. Need to wash, rinse and sanitize all dishes. Cannot just rinse plates under running water. Store coffee cups and glasses away from hand sink and waitress area. Three facility or equipment violations.
The "New" Rodeo No. 2, 2001 John Stockbauer Drive, Victoria. Demerits: 26. Improper cold hold temperature. Need to wash hands in between tasks. Cover all food in walk-in cooler. Need to use gloves or utensils when handling ready to eat foods. Keep hand sink clear at all times. Need to wash, rinse and sanitize all the dishes. Two facility or equipment violations.
H-E-B Grocery Company, 1505 E. Rio Grande St., Victoria. Demerits: 21. Wash hands before putting on gloves. Recommend having a clock in the showcase area so that employees do not have to use cell phones while touching food to document the time. Hand sink should not be used for anything but washing hands. Do not put bags of ice in hand sink. Keep food and deli meats covered. Dispose of dented cans. Need paper towels kept at hand sink. Three facility or equipment violations.
Betty's Country Kitchen, 301 N. Highway 185, Seadrift. Demerits: 17. Need lid and straw on employee drinks. Need to store raw meat below other food. Repair leak under the hand sink. Need to use a hair net or ball cap in kitchen. Three facility or equipment violations.
Pizza Hut No. 022652, 3404 N. Navarro St., Victoria. Demerits: 12. Address the problem with gnats. Fix leak at back hand sink. The ice machine and soda nozzles need to be cleaned. Four facility or equipment violations.
Mama's Kitchen, 31 N. Byers St., Port O'Connor. Demerits: 11. Only wash hands at hand sink, not at the three-compartment sink. Store personal items out of kitchen area. Need to use gloves when handling toast or any ready to eat food. One facility or equipment violation.
Speedy Stop No. 84, 1620 W. Adams Ave., Port O'Connor. Demerits: 10. Date label lunch meat with seven-day use by date. Two facility or equipment violations.

Montana Mike's Steak House, 6409 N. Navarro St., Victoria. Demerits: 7. Employees need cups with lid and straw. Store drinks below food preparation surfaces. The ice machine needs to be cleaned. One facility or equipment violation.

Need to work on dishwasher temperature. Replace ceiling tiles by booth by window. Work on moldy ceiling after new roof dries. Weatherstrip the back door in kitchen.
The Barn at Mission Valley Grocery, 12201 Farm-to-Market Road 236, Mission Valley, inspected July 5 with 21 demerits. Re-inspected July 17, with improper cold hold temperature. Do not store any potentially hazardous foods in cooler until it is holding at 41 or less. Will return to check cooler.
Chunky Monkey's Seafood Market, 621 Main St., Seadrift, inspected June 19 with 6 demerits. Re-inspected July 17, all violations corrected.
America's Best Value Inn, 3901 Houston Highway, Victoria, inspected June 14 with 16 demerits. Re-inspected July 13, with cold hold violation corrected.
El Ahorro/Adventure Supermarkets, 2502 N. Laurent St., Victoria, inspected June 14 with 23 demerits. Re-inspected July 12, with most violations corrected. Continue to work on keeping flies to a minimum.
Skillet's Restaurant No. 90, 3202 Houston Highway, Victoria, inspected June 27 with 3 demerits. Re-inspected July 18, violations not corrected. Dishwasher needs to be 50-100 ppm.
