His years of law enforcement experience will help Norman C. May work better as the Matagorda County Justice of the Peace for Precinct 4.

"I feel that my years of working in law enforcement and the fact that I am available 24 hours a day and seven days a week will enable me to adequately and efficiently serve as justice of the peace in Precinct 4," he said.

The 72-year-old Markham resident worked in the Matagorda County sheriff's department until his retirement in 2004. He worked in patrol and special assignments. He also worked as a police officer for the Bay City school district.

He holds a detention officer's certificate, a telecommunication operator's license and an intermediate peace officers license.

During his employment with the sheriff's department, May worked with each justice of the peace and worked regularly with all other departments, which gave him the knowledge concerning the duties for the position.

"I feel that having worked in the field of law enforcement I will be better qualified to thoroughly, efficiently and effectively serve as justice of the peace," he said.

Longtime friend and supporter David Burton said May will be best for the job because he is hard working.

"He has high integrity and will be best for the position," Burton added.
