First annual par-3 scramble benefits Victoria ISD students and classrooms

The Victoria ISD Education Foundation hosted its first annual VISD Friends and Family Par-3 Scramble Golf Tournament on May 31 at the Victoria Country Club. The event was presented by Frost Insurance, the 2012 Title Sponsor.
A special presentation was scheduled before the tournament play, in which more than $13,000 was awarded in scholarships to graduating seniors and classroom impact grants to teachers. The following VISD students and staff were recognized with oversized mock checks at the event:
Scholarships to Graduating Seniors:
Emily Sestak, of Victoria West High School, received the Dr. Joyce Slone Master Teacher Scholarship for $500.
Trevor Vega, of Victoria West High School, received the Edith Barnhart Master Teacher Scholarship for $500.
Jenica Edge, of Victoria East High School, received the L. C. Middleton Memorial Scholarship for $500.
Elizabeth Bustos, of Victoria West High School, received the Gayla Capers Memorial Scholarship for $500.
Kellie Medrano, of Victoria East High School, received the Gayla Capers Memorial Scholarship for $500.
Sara Hermes, Victoria West High School Athlete of the Year Scholarship by Bhatia Family Investments for $1,000.
Grants to Teachers:
At Aloe, Crain and Schorlemmer Elementary schools, Greta Henke and Dana Curtis received $2,462.24 for "Ready, Set, Roll! Learn to Move, Move to Learn."
At Vickers, Aloe and Dudley Elementary schools, Stephanie Hessler and Amanda Kern received $2,495.95 for "Mildred Garcia The Sound of Success: Improving Student Attention and Self-regulation with Therapeutic Listening."
At Chandler Elementary School, Leona Ebler, Kimberly Barker, Eileen Stanley, Dianne Covington and Bobbi Moran received $2,498.83 for "A 'Sense' of Learning."
At DeLeon Elementary, Beth Young Trcka, Sharon Korczynski, Maggie Koch and Carolyn Kees received $2,500.00 for "C-Notes for C-Scope for Science Success!"
