VANDERBILT - Thunderstorms on Wednesday may have been the culprit that damaged the Trinity Family Center.
Witnesses said they heard the tin being ripped off the building and saw what they thought was a funnel cloud.
LaVerne Hudson, who works with Vanderbilt Farmers Co-Op Inc. was on her way to visit a bank in Victoria. Her supervisor called to see whether she was near the storm. She wasn't.
The center, which is in the 7100 block of Gaston Avenue, sustained some roof damage.
The storm hit close to home for Hudson because the center is where she had her wedding reception three weeks ago.
"I didn't want to believe it at first," Hudson said.
She added that she didn't notice damage to other structures.
Meteorologist Phil Kuhn, of the National Weather Service, confirmed there was a thunderstorm in the area, but would not classify it as severe.
