The Victoria Generals were looking for a catcher, and Eric Weiss was looking for a place to catch.

The Generals and Weiss were able to get together and the connection is paying off for both parties.

Weiss was behind the plate and reached base four times, scoring three runs, in the Generals' 4-3 Texas Collegiate League win over The Woodlands Strykers on Monday night at Riverside Stadium.

"I'm just here to work on my game and be a good teammate and help the ballclub win," Weiss said after the Generals improved to 9-5.

Weiss caught in high school at Cypress Creek before moving to the outfield at Tyler Junior College. He played mostly in the outfield at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi last season, although he was behind the plate for four games.

"I worked at catching all year in practice," Weiss said. "I got the opportunity to come down here and get a lot of time behind the plate."

Weiss caught Tyler Schnurger for six innings, Daniel Tunchez for two and Tanner Green for one after playing both catcher and in the outfield in Sunday night's game against Brazos Valley.

He helped Tunchez pick up his second win and Green earn his third save when he led off the bottom of the eighth with an infield single and went to second on a throwing error by The Woodlands pitcher Cooper Johnson.

Weiss moved to third on a groundout by Trace Knoblauch, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Patrick Dunn.

"As a team it's been hard to find those timely hits," Weiss said. "Tonight in that last inning, I got on second, Trace moved me over and Pat did a great job driving me in."

Weiss walked and scored his first two plate appearances and singled to center field in his third time at the plate.

Weiss isn't sure if he'll be back behind the plate when the Generals and Strykers (4-10) wrap up their series Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Riverside Stadium or next season at A&M-Corpus Christi.

"Anything I can do to play every day is fine with me," he said. "I'd be happy to catch. I'd be happy to play in the outfield. Wherever I can play and play everyday would be fine with me."
